Master Michael had written Shana a sick-note, booking her off for Monday and Tuesday to rest and for the swelling of her throat to subside, but by Wednesday the bruising had gone a dark, mottled purple, and she still hadn’t come up with a plausible excuse for the strangulation marks, so she’d opted to hide them with a combination of makeup and high-necked clothing.

The atmosphere in the flat had been tense since Saturday night. She got the feeling Lizzie was avoiding her, but with Shana’s own emotions pin-balling, she couldn’t say she wasn’t relieved.

She couldn’t deny that the feelings Lizzie had evoked in her on Saturday night had been intense. New. Downright erotic.

“I figured out how to open the door, but no matter what I do, I can’t figure out how to turn it on.”

“Well, have you tried talking dirty to it first?” She asked, then realizing what she’d said, she clapped a hand over her mouth, her eyes like saucers. “Oh, my God – I’m so sorry!” Damn it, Shana, you’re not at the club!

He blinked at her in surprise for a few moments, before bursting out in a deep belly-laugh. Samantha, one of the Geography teachers, poked her head into the kitchenette to see what was going on, but seeing nothing of interest, she left again.

“I’m so sorry,” she said again. “That was inappropriate.”

“I know,” he panted, taking off his glasses to wipe the tears from his eyes. “But don’t worry – I won’t hold it against you.
